So I'm making a new track, and I'm kind of stuck.

I feel like my lead is too thin if I leave it with the few layers it has now, but it is too muddy or overpowering if I layer more/ detune more.

I'm still an amateur, so If anyone has any tips or ideas, it would be much appreciated

This actually sounds quite nice!

- Are you highpassing everything that should be? Just making sure...

- Maybe make that kick stronger? Try replacing it with a different sample, or highpass most everything else if you haven't done that already.

- Try making that main lead more stereo! If you're using ZynAddSubFX, just add more oscillators, then pan them. That makes a huge difference in the synth quality.

- Maybe add more percussion?

- If you haven't done so already, maybe add just a little bit of saturation to the master track, and maybe some compression, too.

- Harmonies would make that sound amazing!

I'm not usually one for EDM (this may come as a surprise to many of you) but this one definitely takes the cake! Very upbeat - sounds like it could fit in Phendrana Drifts or the Tallon Overworld from Metroid Prime.

Honestly I have no clue how to create an EDM track nor have I tried. But I like this for sure. You did a great job however, like I said I have little experience in making a EDM type track so for advice I don't have any unfortunately. What I can say though is that my ears enjoyed it.

Wooah. That synth melody/sound, at the start of the track, reminded me of the Torvus Bog stage
in Metroid Prime 2. But overall, this wip sounds nice man.

Tip: Slightly lower down, the volume of the track, a tiney tiny bit.

Oh, that actually helps alot. I think my earphones suck, because It was quiet for me at like 75 percent volume on my computer. I will lower that though, especially because I had to sacrifice some quality to make it louder. Never actually played metroid, but you are right, the lead sounds almost identical.
