My second LMMS track with story - "Bikini Atoll'

My second track on LMMS. Recorded, composed & arranged 100% in LMMS on my old IdeaPad 300s. I hope you'll like it :)

For all bass & synth melodies I used only ZynAddSubFX.
Also for very quiet "crackings" which you can hear in the highest frequencies I used ZynAddSubFX for imitation of analog vinyl sound.
For glitches and noises I used FreeBoy and Opulenz.
For kick, snare and whole percussion I used samples from 606 and 909 machines passed through tape recorders for make it little dirty and analog.

And here is the story of this track:
Bikini Atoll (on the picture below) is an atoll in the Marshall Islands. Before the advent of Western influence, the Bikini islanders' sustenance-based lifestyle was based on cultivating native plants and eating shellfish and fish. They were skilled boat builders and navigators, sailing the two-hulled proa to and from islets around the Bikini and other atolls in the Marshall Islands. The islanders were relatively isolated and had developed a well-integrated society bound by close extended family association and tradition. Every lagoon was led by a king and queen and a following of chieftains and chief women who constituted a ruling caste.

Between 1946 and 1958, 23 nuclear devices were detonated by the United States at seven test sites located on the reef, inside the atoll, in the air, or underwater. They had a combined fission yield of 42.2 Mt. The testing began with the Operation Crossroads series in July 1946. Prior to nuclear testing, the residents initially accepted resettlement voluntarily to Rongerik Atoll, believing that they would be able to return home within a short time. Rongerik Atoll could not produce enough food and the islanders starved. When they could not return home, they were relocated to Kwajalein Atoll for six months before choosing to live on Kili Island, a small island one-sixth the size of their home island. Some were able to return to the Bikini Island in 1970 until further testing revealed dangerous levels of strontium-90. The islanders have been the beneficiary of several trust funds created by the United States government which as of 2013 covered medical treatment and other costs and paid about $550 annually to each individual. Thank You so much! It's the magic of 606, 909 and analog tapes :D
The history of this atoll ...

At the second listen I realized that my headphones were badly connected ... there was no kick, less depth ...

The two tracks published announce good things to come!

On this one, have you mixed it in better conditions?

Yeah, I mixed it on my KRK monitors :)
Once, I had the opportunity to listen to my tracks on good speakers, and I was surprised and strongly disappointed by the rendering.

I don't know if it is worth buying good speakers if the acoustic of my room is not corrected.

What do you think?
And, do you have a room corrected?

I don't have sound corrected room. But I think that basic monitors + good audio interface make VERY HUGE difference. Even when I got some problems in the lowest frequencies, I can hear music better and more truly than on cheap 2.1 speakers. I can hear many sounds and details, which I can't hear on my AKG K518DJ headphones or other speakers, which are not monitors. This is couse a lot speakers that are not monitors are made not for showing You true sound of music, but make this sound "nice to listen". It's like working with graphic - when You got real screen for proffesionals You see how black is black in your work. But if You are looking on the same picture on the very nice Macbook screen You see not true black, but BETTER black than it is and You can't see some shades. And problem starts when You want show Your work to many people and every person has diffrent screen couse some people will see something, what Your screen didn't show You. This a reason that You were disappointed of rendering.

But of course the most important thing is to know what is not perfect with Your room / speakers / whole acoustic and learn sound of Your gear and room. It's great to compare Your work on many speakers in many places - in friends rooms, cars, headphones etc. It shows You what's not perfect in Your home studio and let You to correct your work more or less. But it needs experience. And You really need to know Your software also - limiters, compressors, EQs with graphic diagrams are really helpful in this. This is my biggest problem now, couse I can't find it in my LMMS and I can't plug in external plugins which I know the best and I worked with them for years. Sometimes You just need to see something to correct it (for example when You're working in train on headphones like me), if You got enough experience. Than it's one moment to change only little bit something in mix in the studio, but You don't need to make whole mix from the beginning. But I'm in LMMS only few days and I will learn everything fast, I guess :)

PS You can check the new, dub edit of the first track, I just update first topic with "Dry Fields" :)
I think you're right, even in an uncorrected room, the couple monitors + audio interface would always be better than the 2.1 system (wtf! The first store is 400Km!).

Thank you.
