a picture is worth a thousand words, but 3 pictures... are worth 3 thousand words!

what a i suggest here is to add different automation point types.
this would increase the flexibility of the automation track.

the selection tool for the piano roll could be implemented for the automation points too.

i made the next images using GIMP, they are free to use.

true, but put in simple words, you can do this already. You simply patchwork several aut-patterns in sequence. Easy to do when changes are 'block' sized. A bit fiddly if they are not, but doable

Great mind, it was a pain to make this pictures in GIMP, i can figure out how hard it would be to add such thing
