PC keyboard octave change

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi,

I am new to LMMS and I am still learning on how to use it (from about two days) before I start making any music with it :). I am planning to use it "on the go" with a small laptop. In the era of FT2 I used to record my ideas just using PC keyboard, so I was expecting to do it the same way with LMMS. Unfortunatelly I cannot find a way to switch up/down PC keyboard octaves! I went through documentation and I cannot find how to do it! Please help.

Welcome corvin. :D

On the Lmms plugins eg. Triple Oscillator or Audio File Processor etc. close to the GUI piano keys:
You'll see a small green square which is called the base note. :)
By default, it's on A4.

Move that nice small green square higher to A5 or A6 etc, or lower to A3 or A2 etc
to get to another octave. :D

I hope I explained that right. :P

Welcome to the forum corvin! Here are all our important links:

Yes the base-note is the adjustable for that:

HI,

Thank you for your quick reply! I should be OK with the solution provided. Nevertheless, when I change base note, recording sounds as I intend it to sound, but the notes recorded are still same (C4 to C6). In my opinion a much better solution would be to actually change the octave on the keyboard (for example to C5-C7 or C2-C4) and then recorded notes would be saved in piano roll according to chosen octave. The solution with base note has one more inconvenience - if I want to use notes within the range of more than 2 octaves, I would need to transpose my recordings or use another track with same instrument, but different base note - of course I am talking about recording live with PC keyboard. As I understand it is not yet possible to just switch octaves for PC keyboard? I realise, that not too many people would make music on PC keyboard!?!, anyway, is it possible to implement such option into LMMS? :)

Hi,

Just found this: https://sourceforge.net/p/lmms/patches/7/ !
I think this is the option I am looking for! What a pity it did not get into LMMS!

well there is considerations around a octave-changer, but
why not use two tracks with identical instruments but different basé-notes?
If the preset-UI had a button that yo needed to press for the notes to be recorded in a new octave, you would still need to make a mouse-press on a button. Pressing a different instrument-track would not be any more inconvenient (an action witch will be improved in 1.2 btw)
So that would be my solution for your immediate problem:
2 or several tracks aside, and switching focus during the recording.
Afterwards it is dead simple to move all notes to one track, if you prefere that
Hi,

It will be perfectly fine for now for me to use two tracks with identical instrument. I will anyway look forward into new version with the octave-changer implemented! Thank you!

Regards,
I'd like to request the keyboard key octave changer too. I just switched from live to lmms since live didn't work with any of the free vsts I wanted to use. I also work with the keyboard only and I really miss changing the octaves with the keyboard.
