SF2 Weird behaviour

Hi, so newb at LMMS (and DAWs in general) but I do know my way around file structures.

I have D/L'd a couple of SF2s, and I'm having issues - The soundfonts folder in the MySamples pane is empty. (This is after closing down and reloading)
I have changed the default look in folder to the correct one (in my case D:\Program Files\LMMS\samples\soundfonts), but it still shows as blank.
I *can* drag the SF2 player into the instrument bit of the song player, and access the files that way (when I open the file picker in SF2Player it goes to the right folder straightaway, so I've definitely(?) changed the settings correctly)

So, it's not totally not working, but kinda...

If I download an mmpz from the web with an SF2 in it, I have to go through each of the SF2Player lines and point the player in the right direction (again the dialog opens in exactly the right folder). Interestingly, as soon as I do, it picks up the correct patch by itself. I can then save the project and when I reopen it again everything is fine.
So, yeah, workarounds no problem, and it's free so I'm happy :D just wondering what I'm doing wrong?
Cheers for any help, and sorry about the lengthy description

Hi, Welcome to the Forum ViciousCat069 !
Here are all important links:

-A few rules and useful forum instructions

Soundfonts. Lets start with the Default Soundfont File
This Sf will be the one LMMS uses for all needed SF, in order to load a playable MIDI-import!
For That file we recommend the GeneralUserGS
http://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php
-and that one is linked to here in Settings:

That is the first thing you should get!

Yes, LMMS does not ship with any soundfonts
I have changed the default look in folder to the correct one (in my case D:\Program Files\LMMS\samples\soundfonts)
Do you perhaps mean the Default-soundfont i explained above? That path is aie. meant for LMMS to locate the MIDI-import SF

After you have inserted a default Sf, you will get that one inserted where you are missing a SF used by a different user.
When you DL a project as a MMP(Z) is does not have any 3. party SF, samples or VSTs embedded. There are no embedding at all!
Missing Sfs are replaced with Default-soundfont, Samples and VSTs need to be manually replaced. We may change this upstream, but legal issues will be a problem.
