You could do that as a 'play-&-record' session
I would lay in the kick/ bass-drum as a pace-keeper, but you could use the metronome instead.
Your next step would then be the 'play-&-record' session, repeated for each of the rhythmic elements you like in your beat. Eg, one for snare, one for high-hat, one for ..triangle :p aso.
Each seperate track would build up the complexity and groove of the total beat
