No sound when I Import a Wav file in Song editor/sample trac

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Dear LMMS support crew,

I downloaded LMMS 2 weeks ago and had a blast creating beats and songs. Thanks for creating this great software!.

I now want to take it a step further and import samples and songs. I learned that wav is supported on LMMS and therefore tried quickly to import a wav file into the song editor / sample track following the steps i learned on tutorials and forums... but I get no sound at all from my track. I drag and drop the track on a "green rectangle" that I created on the right side of the Sample track in the sound editor and then extended the duration of the said "green rectangle" (sorry for my poor knowlede of tecnical terms to use... I'm new to this) to the length desired for the song I imported, but no sound... ;(

After trying again and again and looking for answers online with no success, I've stopped using LMMS since I can't evolve in my projects. I'm so disapointed. I'm sure I'm missing something really basic and simple, but can't figure it out. I really hope you can help me out with this.

Cheers and many thanks
Barb
Try creating the "green rectangle" then double clicking it. That should open a dialogue box for you to load the .wav file. That automatically extends it to the correct length. And then it plays...or at least that works for me (LMMS 1.1.5, Win 7/8.1). Drag and drop doesn't.

Hi and welcome to our community
I only jump in because of two things
1) I want to tell you about our wiki
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Manual
and especially the chapter on sample-usage
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wo ... th_Samples

2) Slipstick diddent mean lmms-1.1.5 im sure he meant 1.1.3, because theres no 1.1.5 :p -If your copy is 1.1.3, you have the newest stable release.
Thanks for your tip Steve! Altough it didn't work, I saw which format I could import into LMMS and tried with AIFF (even if I'm working on Windows 10) and IT WORKED!!! Thanks!

To the folks at LMMS, if there is a way to import wav without having to convert them into another format (AIFF for ex.), please let me know.

Cheers
Perhaps it depends on the exact wav format file you have. I've just tried 3 .wav files, one I recorded myself and 2 from the internet and they all worked perfectly. Odd.

And yes I did mean 1.1.3 - my fingers aren't typing very well this morning ;).

WAV files are supported. If your wav file doesn't work it is likely corrupted and by running it through a converter, it fixed the underlying corruption problem. e.g. If you had ran it through a converter and chosen "WAV" again, it most likely would have fixed it. "OGG" is also a commonly used format.
I just spent a while converting 14 songs from .mp3, to .wav. I imported each one, one at a time, to audacity, with drag and drop, did a normalize on it, then exported to .wav with the 32bit float option.... out of those 14 songs, only 3 of them would preview or load in LMMS.
I just want to add that here, because in my case there seems to be an issue with the .wav files...
I redid the process with one of the songs that would not load, except i exported it as the 16bit .wav, and the .ogg... both the 16bit .wav, and the .ogg worked flawlessly in LMMS... the same source .mp3...

....go back to your source sample, and try the other file formats that LMMS can handle..... I hope this helps.

And a Special Thank You to slipstick... i was shown a different way to load long samples on the tube...and your double click method works so much faster and better!

You have found a topic from 2015. It is no longer really relevant, however your issues with Audacity converted mp3 is.

Those wave files, that does not work in lmms, do they replay in other players, f.i. WMP or similar?

Make sure your wav files isn't reaching the sample size limit.
LMMS-1.1.3 has a sample size limit of 100MB.
LMMS-1.2.0-rc7 (latest beta) has a sample size limit of 300MB and a length limit of 90 minutes.
