Keeps adding an extra bar when there is nothing there

That happens when you use a non-defined note-length. Most often after changes of Q, sometimes because Alt has been hold as you stretch notes.
All notes that break a bar-divider-line, will cause any block to be extended with that bar
To repair:
Open each block and set the magnification to max.
Now you can see that the notes breaks the bar-divider
Set Q to max. value, and shorten each divider breaking note.
