am i able to download an effect online and add it to the fx mixer? ive been trying for a while with no luck

if its a vst and you put it in the right folder you can.

Now what 'effect' are we talking about?
Gps refers to effect-plugins, like a delay, or an compressor, just as the LADSPA and CALF effects, that are native ib LMMS, but there is also effect-samples eg a BOOM or some shouting. Those are sound-files, and you use AudioFileProcesser to host them.

it is a vst and i tried putting the file into the plugin folder but the plugin wont show up with the rest of the effects in the fx mixer. however if i put it in vestige it shows up but has no use at all because vestige cant be used in the fx mixer

You must place it in a folder inside the LADSPA-folder defined in your Settings, or (better) directly in the LADSPA-folder
