Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hey all,

I need a step by step tutorial on how to install a VST into LMMS (windows). I typed in “install VST” and got the message, “The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words”.

I've watched a couple of you tube videos. One was useless, the other didn't work.

I have a paid gig, if I can produce some music. I have the music, but it needs better plugins....

Thanks!

Oh, does LMMS support VST 1, 2 and 3?

Thanks again,
Tanner

No, that depends on the VST. Most VSTs does not need to be installed, some does. If the VST comes in a .EXE or a .MSI, then they do indeed need to be installed.
For those relatively few, you just right-click and run the installer and points to your chosen VST folder, as the install target. Normally that results in a new folder inside your VST-folder, where art and perhaps factory-presets are placed

You may be interested in learning about using Synth1 in LMMS?

Synth1 is one of those VSTs that does ned to be installed, and beside that, it may be the best VST
I have a paid gig,

This is fine - I do believe you mean a performance :p -But LMMS does also contain a GIG-player, so if you actually have bought a GIG-instrument-package , then you use that with the GIG-player, not as a VST 80]

Currently VST3 is not supported
Thanks for responding so fast. Yes it's a paid job. ;)

...maybe the word I should have used is “import”.

I've been using LMMS for 5 years and have never used a non-native VST (plugin). I needed a good sounding guitar, so I went to VST4 FREE and downloaded one. It's sitting in my download folder...

What do I need to do, so I can use it in LMMS? Very basic stuff that I should have learned a long time ago... :/

Thanks

The file is a Win 32 VST v2.10 – 6 mb - .dll in a ZIP folder
You need to unzip it and remember the location. Then in LMMS use the VeSTIge plug in to load it. There is a folder on icon on vestige. Click it and navigate to the location of your vst.
Mr_LMMS_user, Thanks!
That was a lot easier than I imagined. Duh.

Musikbear, thanks for the info.
Were can I find Synth1? It sounds like something I'd like to mess around with.

Read the read me, it explain you need to run an exe file.

( For those on Linux run the exe with wine, and download the windows version )
