Using and Organizing Effect VSTs?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
I have two questions:

1. How do I use VST effects? If I load them in the mixer, the panel in the Effects Chain just has the three W/D/Decay/Gate knobs--there's no "Control" button to open the actual effect. If I create an instance of VeSTige and load the VST effect I can properly view the GUI, but since it's loaded as an instrument (through VeSTige), I'm not sure how to use it as an effect. The effect I'm trying to use in particular is Xfer's OTT.

2. Is there a way to separate VST instruments and effects? Right now it seems like there's just one VST folder that LMMS uses. However, is there a way to split it so that VeSTige looks in one folder and the mixer effects manager looks in the another? After all, there isn't much reason to go through my effects when looking for instruments or vice versa.

Let me know if you need specs and/or screencaps, but I'm assuming these are simple things I'm just overlooking. Thanks!

Generally like this:

2. Is there a way to separate VST instruments and effects
Your effect should be placed in the LADSPA effect folder, and your VST-instruments in your Vestige-folder . Both defined in your settings

1. All right, I got this resolved--I had a shortcut pointing towards the folder with OTT. Moving OTT to the actual file got the "Controls" button to show up; it seems that when there was a shortcut LMMS was able to see that OTT existed but wasn't able to actually access it.

2. Is the Vestige-folder the "VST-Plugin Directory"? The VST instruments I have in my VST-Plugin Directory are showing up in the effects list, so even if I move my VST effects to the LADSPA folder, I think my VST instruments will still show up in the effects list.

good

If you have made a default installation, you will have a lmms-library in
:..\Documents\lmms\presets
Here you have a folder named \VeSTige
That is where you should place the dll's of VST-instruments, either inside their own folder (if there is more than one file -like banks or artwork) or just as individual dll's
Then your instruments should not appear with your plugins
I do have the "lmms/presets" folder... but there was no Vestige folder in there.

I did some direct testing, and it seems that Vestige's default folder and the folder the Effects Chain checks is the folder I set as the "VST-Plugin Directory". Is there a way to get Vestige to pull its default folder from somewhere else?

I have LMMS 1.2.1, which I think is the latest version, and Windows 10.

I have looked elsewhere, and there has been some changes to the folder setup.
VST instruments are supposed to be placed in a folder in the library Samples
VST effect are supposed to be placed in a folder defined as VST-Plugins in your Settings
Can that work for you?
I do have the "samples" folder, but even if I move my VST Instruments there, when I browse for a VST in Vestige the default is still the vstplugins folder.

With the VST Instruments in the "samples" folder, they now all show up in the "samples" tab in LMMS. If I drag the .dll file onto the Song Editor, it automatically creates an instance of Vestige... but it's blank. If it created an instance of Vestige with that .dll file loaded, that would probably be good enough, but... that's not what it does.

Have you edited your paths in Settings?

As i told you, use a subfolder, inside Samples, and also subfolder for multifile VSTs, then it ought to be correct.
But all the changs and moving around, could have left a messy installation, so maby you better reinstall:

*If you have made anything ...Back-up your own stuff
*Un-install current installation
*(re)move the config dot-file
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=LM ... h_Settings
*download a fresh new installation-pack either x32 or x64 of
LMMS 1.2.1
https://lmms.io/download/#windows
32 Bit:
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... -win32.exe
64 Bit:
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... -win64.exe
*re-install as administrator and grant all users access

Rem. to backup before you reinstall!
Let us know the outcome :)
Okay, I reinstalled and... it doesn't seem like anything has changed.

In my prior install of LMMS I had changed the directories to a place I preferred, but left them all as default. I also created subfolders.

So the "VST-Plugin Directory" is C:\Program Files\VstPlugins\, which is where all my VST Effects are.

My VST Instruments are in C:\Users\[me]\Documents\lmms\samples\VST Instruments (the default folder that LMMS created/used, with a subfolder "VST Instruments" that I created). As before, the VSTs show up in the sample tab in LMMS, and dragging a VST .dll onto the Song Editor creates a blank instance of Vestige.

My VST Effects show up in the effect controller as desired, but when I go to load a VST in Vestige, the default folder it opens is C:\Program Files\VstPlugins\.

Everything is correct..
I really dont know why you have these issues -Though i never drag any dll in, i alway load a VST-'blanc'
Image
-and add the dll through the folder on that, but dragging in is implemented, so it should also work
soo.....

You did get rid of the config-dot-file -right?
That one can mess things up, ive seen that before

How about rights, are you making your install as Admin and using it as Admin ?
