I'd been using an organ vst with no problems but I tried some new ones last night (strings, viola, guitar) and while I can open them and play them & save the track, I can't reopen any track that uses one of the new VSTs. Any track I try to reopen gets as far as showing me the plugin but it won't finish loading the project it just sticks around 85%

Can anyone help? I'm using Win 8.1 and LMMS 1.1.3 and like I say it's worked OK with the organ VST (which is still working now).

VSt is not 'just' VST, some are build 'oddly' and can cause this

What are the exact name of the VST?

I suggest that you try out the latest stable version, LMMS 1.2.1

You should definitively upgrade!
1.2.1 is much better when it comes to VST-support.
Very few fails

Follow these guidelines for updating:
*If you have made anything ...Back-up your own stuff
*Un-install current installation
*(re)move the config dot-file

*download a fresh new installation-pack either x32 or x64 of
LMMS 1.2.1
