Strange midi input problems

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello,

I am running LMMS 1.2.1 (from Ubuntu 20.04 apt sources) along with jack

I could wire the audio inputs and outputs, and can produce sounds
But I have a strange but with MIDI input, it has a lot of dropout messages. When I hit my keyboard, about 1/8 times, it will not notice the key press or key release.

MIDI input works fine with every other software on the machine.

Any clues ?

Have a good day

That could be your latency buffer-setting.
In Edit| Settings General Setting
We have a slider that makes it possible to set the buffer. Try changing that.
Let us know the outcome :)
Hello Musikbear,

thanks for your answer and welcome message.

I try changing the latency from 256 samples to 1024, the problem is still here, as much as usual.

But, I discover that if I use ALSA midi instead of JACK Midi in the settings, it does work without any note drop.

I'm not sure where the problem come from here, strange thing is it works properly with other software (standalone ZynaddsubFx, ardour, pianoteq ...)
I think there is a problem with my jack config, i don't see the midi devices, I only see some "system" input which I use ... I'll dig into this later.

I am pleased you have a solution!
Keep us posted if you discover some jack-lmms related problem, but the huge issue is that each installation of linux is different from any other, unless its vanilla-installed.
Hello,
I'm new in this forum. I have been looking for somebody who had the same problem as I have but I cant find it. Fortunately my problem is something similar to this. MIDI on LMMS do not detect when I'm releasing the keys and because of that, the sound remains playing when I'm not playing at all. It only happens when I push two or more keys simoultaneously. If it is only one there is no problem. I have tried to change the buffer size and the latency but it does not fix it. I hope somebody could help me with it.
Regards

We need to know a couple of things
Do you use a PC-keyboard or a MIDI-HW-kB?

please post your:
* Name of your Operative System (Windows/ Linux/ Mac) And subtype ('Home' 'Mint' '10.13' aso)
* lmms version
* lmms sound device chosen -see
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=LM ... o_Settings
* hardware specification (ram & soundcard is the most important)
* Name Mark and version of MIDI-Hardware
* Latency setting
If the issue are with default content:
* lmms instrument involved
* lmms preset (if a factory preset is used)
* Name of FX-plugin if any used
If the issue are with non-default content:
* VST involved & link to a download for this VST
* Name of VST-FX-plugin if any used
Hi,
By HW I think you mean an external soundcard for example. I use direct connectipon with a MIDI-USB cable to the MIDI ports of my keyboard.
My operative system is Windows 7 ultimate. LMMS version is 1.2.1. Sound device chosen is SDL for audio and WinMM MIDI.Hardware specification is 4GB of RAM and integrated sound card, Realtek 8 channel audio chip (G41MX-K2.0).The MIDI interface I'm using is unbranded but you can see it in this link:
https://cpc.farnell.com/unbranded/usb-m ... dp/CS17945

Latency: 180 ms.
The issue is with default content, I'm using the Triple Oscillator instrument. But it also hapopens with DSK Akoustik KeyZ

I dont like this, because i fear we cant solve it. There is nothing in your setup, that can explain this issue. What is the name and brand of your MIDI-keyboard -is it on this list?
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Us ... _keyboards
I also need to ask you, if you have identical problem, if you use your PC-keyboard
Hi,
I'm using a Roland Juno-G. It is not the list. I don't know how to use my PC-Keyboard as a controller. How can I do that? It would be nice. Thank you.

Your pc-keyboard works natively as controller for piano-roll
You may have to unplug your MIDI-HW, and restart lmms
Then your pc-keyboard works as a note-playing-controller
You can see here
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Pi ... r_Keyboard
What key activates each semitone in piano-roll
Try that and see if the semitones still hangs
Let us know the outcome :)
