The very first time I launched LMMS, the sound from the presets were normal. I then set up Aria Player as a plug in. The sound from AP was fine as well. However, I did not remember if I already closed LMMS and reopened again or for some odd reason, no sound was heard, yet I could see the volume bar went up and down when a sound was depressed. Then, I tried changing the audio settings and sliding up the buffer level. I went back and forth opening and closing LMMS to change the audio and buffer settings in between. The sound came back, yet it's all distorted now. High pitch instrument sounds like low frequency sound. The low pitch instrument sounds awfully noisy.

The problem is that I REALLY have no idea what setting to choose. In Aria Player, right after I installed, I did not change the settings, all the timbres sounded like computer keyboard's keys got stuck. Then, I changed the audio settings to "Direct Sound." Then, it was working normal. However, it was just try and error thing without the knowledge of what to choose. It was simple to choose too, since it only had two choices. On the contrary, there are so many different audio settings to choose from; I am really puzzled. I only knew that my computer uses Sound Blaster X-fi Xtreme Audio (vista). I tried each one with the similar name on LMMS audio setting list yet without success......

What should I do? Thanks

You should try setting the audio backend to SDL. That should work on any system.

Yes SDL is the correct sound-device for windows in general
