Sample use?

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Hello,

Can I use LMMS's audio (samples) for a music making studio I'm programming. (For an operating system I'm creating.) Credit of course will go to LMMS for the instrument samples. The samples will not be sold.

Thanks
Please feel free to use music you've made with the software as you wish.

There are some exceptions, such as borrowing from non-CC0 projects. (We are working to remove these).

If you feel you've used something which requires accreditation but you are unsure, pleas ask on the developers mailing list or open an issue on our GitHub tracker citing specifics and we will help iron our the rest.

In short, if people can't do what they want with the music they create, there is no purpose of having a DAW.

That is correct. LMMS is open source, but are the sound fonts the same?
It's a tricky question to answer, because AFAIK we don't know where most of the bundled samples came from and consequently, their licensing. There is currently a low momentum project to replace the current samples with new ones that are 100% legally clear.

Good, let him as long as they're licensed properly. Hopefully he offers some back to us down the road.

There really aren't "open source" samples, but rather licensed sample. We try to use CC0 samples, giving you the freedom to choose, but before you start to cherrypick them, you'd need to find out where they came from and what their license is. If you can't determine the license, the risk is on your shoulders what can and can't be done with them.

P.S. We don't ship with any soundfonts, not sure if you misspoke.
