Ive been working on a project for a few hours and I saved it and closed the app. Then upon trying to load the project again, the loading bar stops at 72% and when I exit the loading notification the entire app crashes. I can start a new project but when I try to load my existing project it crashes. I tried looking this up and someone said it was an issue with the VSTs installed so I deleted all of them and tried to load the project. This time, it gave me an error saying that it couldn't find the VSTs for the plugin I used for the project which makes sense but I'm not sure how to get it to load with the plugin. Any help with this would be very appreciated.

I can suggest a solution to save the project
- Make a copy of the project and clarify the solution by trying these steps;
0. Pray to God.
1. Remove VSTs used in the project, respectively.
(For example, if you have 10 VST, remove all and install them one by one.)
2. After each VST you installed, run the LMMS again and open the project.
3. Detect problematic VST / VSTs.
4. Download and install VSTs again.
5. Run LMMS and open your project.

I hope you succeed.

No luck, is there any way to load the rest of the project without the plugin? it may be salvageable if I can do that.

@had is partly correct, but in first instance, lets save your work!
Shut lmms down!
Use your OS-brower to find the folder where you have your VSTs. now just add an underscore to the folder-name, that will eradicate the search issue!
Now browse to your project-folder in My-documents
Open it
IF you have a file named Backup you should rename it!
Backup28may
would be a good name!
That is the first recovery option

Open lmms
IF you get a popup similar'ish like this

Then select recover
Then imediately go to
File| Save-as and give this file a new name it would be smart to name it 'projRecovered28may.mmp'
That is the 2. recovery option!

Now open the project that has given you the issue in the first place
It will flag that it cant find a lot of stuff, but the project Opens!
You have saved all your notes!
Use save_as, and give the file a good name <project>NoVSTs, would be good.

The rest of the process is
Compare
* project>NoVSTs
* projRecovered28may.mmp
* Backup28may
and find the one with most of your work preserved, then that is your new project-file!
Finally remove the problem VST from your file, and remove the underscore from your VST-folder-name
Done!

Which version of the app are you using? If you are using an older version of the app, then maybe your project is not loading properly. Please update yourand see if the problem is solved...

This issue was probably an issue with one of the VSTs used. You'll have to follow some form of the above steps or attempt to load an older, working version of your project. There's not much that can be done otherwise.

The same issue is going on with me. But it crashes at 97%
Wonder when the devs gonna fix it.

You need to let us know

* Name of your Operative System (Windows/ Linux/ Mac) And subtype (Home' 'Mint' '10.13' aso)
* lmms version, and the site where you got it from
* lmms sound device chosen

* hardware specification (ram & soundcard is the most important)
* Name Mark and version of MIDI-Hardware
* Buffer-size Latency setting

Goto: C:\Users\<Username>\
There you have a file named .lmmsrc.xml
Open that in notepad
Copy and paste the content here (If you feel there is sensitive data, then delete it from the copy-paste

If the issue are with default content:
* lmms instrument involved
* lmms preset (if a factory preset is used)
* Name of FX-plugin if any used
If the issue are with non-default content:
* VST involved & link to a download for this VST
* Name of VST-FX-plugin if any used
* a screenshots of error-state -if any oddness appear
Do test opening:
projects\demos\Greippi - Krem Kaakkuja (SecondFlight Remix).mmpz
Did it load?
