Experimental string work - and a bug!

Here is a fragment of a short piece I've been working on - https://soundcloud.com/user-977473438/s ... -lmms-copy

This was produced in MuseScore. In order to get this to work I unrolled the repeats, then exported to Midi. This particular version was then input into an LMMS template I've just produced.

The result is not terribly refined, and needs more work. I have done this before in Logic.

One problem with LMMS - I'm running it on a Mac under Catalina - is that the final export to .wav truncates to a one minute fragment. I'd like to get round that, if possible. What happens is that the export hangs at 99% - but a .wav file is produced - and as noted it is incomplete.

I will try to improve the way this piece sounds using LMMS to see if it's possible, but if the output truncate problem persists I'll have to revert back to Logic or Reaper.
I would still like to be able to get the whole of this (or any) piece generated with lmms, but though I've tried several times it still seems to get truncated in MacOS/Catalina. It's certainly not reliable.

As it happens Catalina messes with other DAWs too, as it tries to reject virtual instruments which seemed to work perfectly well in previous versions -due to "privacy and security" reasons. It is possible to work round some of those reasons, but it's a bit trick and rather a pain to have to do.

While I appreciate firms introducing security measures to protect users, I do wonder whether Apple is simply trying to wage war on other providers by making it impossible for the to produce software and virtual instruments, so as to promote its own software and packages. Perhaps that's too harsh, but by putting this barrier up, supposedly because of a move to 64 bit only software and packages, Apple is making it difficult for companies and people producing such things - including virtual instruments - to survive in the Apple environment.

This may also affect pieces written for LMMS which might use virtual instruments which Apple doesn't approve of.

However - I did produce a version of the string piece and get a complete rendition of it - this time using Logic - and it's at https://soundcloud.com/user-977473438/s ... t101-becho You will notice from the envelope that the version has a wider dynamic range, achieved by using automation. Indeed the dynamic range is such that I have to turn down the volume for subsequent tracks if I include that in a playlist. This is a warning. There is nothing wrong with the volume setting for this new track, but if it's followed immediatly by something with a narrower dynamic range, that will probably be too loud.

I will try to produce yet another version in LMMS with a similar dynamic range, as I believe that too many tracks don't exploit dynamic range sufficiently. The Logic version also has tempo automation - again something I'd like to try out in LMMS.

If I can get a version done in LMMS which doesn't truncate I will put that up also.
