LMMS Showing Settings Upon Startup

Hi!
So I'm new here. I've been using LMMS for about two weeks now - even though for the past week I haven't been able to use it at all.
While the little startup box image thing is showing, LMMS shows the settings menu with everything set to a default. When I change the audio settings to my preferred settings, it gives me the message that says the settings won't be changed until restart.
Upon restart, I get the same exact settings menu - with the settings back to default. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software.
I'm using Windows 8.1 64 bit, Realtek sound.
Basically, it seems like everything works, except I can't get the sound due to the settings problem.
Any fixes?

one thing that could cause this is the path-names used in Settings
You are not supposed to have used any character in any folder or path-name that is not in the English alphabet -as part of any of your paths.
This includes accents like ' ~ ^ or 'language specials' like ø æ å
(Eg only UNIchars are allowed -not asciiChar)
-Could that be the issue here?

I went and checked and there wasn't any of those characters in the folders.

You need to find and move a file on your hard-drive

Unfortunately, you cant rename this file, because it is a so-call 'dot-file'
(im still fighting for this to change, but no luck so far :/
So move it away

In this situation, i would actually do a complete new install, and i would dl a new install pack:
https://lmms.io/download/#windows
Then use remove-program, and remove lmms completely
Restart your pc
Re-install lmms from the new dl-pack
I hope this will do it, if not, we need go deeper :/
One Q:
Have you had lmms running, making projects and saved & reopened them, before, without any issues?

I wonder because you say that the problem has lasted a week, but you used lmms for 2 weeks - I really wonder what went wrong -Did you move something.. ?
