This place is sorta slow moving, since very few consistently active members are here. I think we owe most of our activity, and help around the forum, to musikbear :) He is very helpful. We don't have many active forums members But don't be fooled, we WILL do our best to solve your problems. A lot of our semi-active/active members are interested in, and care about, music and LMMS. We may disagree on a lot of things, but it ties us together.
We have a lot of spam and only one moderator cleaning it up: Again, musikbear. So, as a result, you may see spam for up to two days before it is purged from the forums. (I'd love to help, but I can't get a discord for personal reasons, and all clean-up jobs, from cleaning spam pronto on the forums to editing the lmms.io documentary entails getting on the lmms discord.)
So, don't spam the forums. Definitely don't send casino links, links to fancy versions of whatsapp, etc (:
On that matter, avoid topics unrelated to LMMS, music, audio, synthesizing etc, unless in the General section of the forums.
brandystarbrite, another moderator, is very helpful around the forums too- known to give textual tutorials on synthesizing and audio, and a very common reviewer on the music, he's a greatly appreciated part of the community for his work and words. His threads in the tutorials part of the forum, are often greatly illuminating as so to the basics (and complexities) of how music and sound works, in the layman's terms.
musikbear also makes tutorial videos on youtube, for any and all topics. If needed to demonstrate how to do something specific, he has in the past made videos for the process if describing them without videos can be hard. I am pretty sure that, for a decent proportion of requests for help working in a certain way, musikbear has made a video that already has an answer. (His channel is bearsoundz at
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIfZfd ... vp6C8XAJUw and if you are used to carefully paced video-based help, which personally isn't my style but is the preference for most people, then it is the place to go for getting a better understanding about LMMS if you feel unsure about how to do something or ill-confident in your ability to work with maximum efficiency in the interface.) I am pretty sure he usually uses Windows. English being his second language, while his language may appear patchy or winding, in practicality it gives the advantage of his point being expressed in a clear way where it cannot be misunderstood easily. He is probably the most active part of the community here, and is a brilliant moderator and member.
Gps, another prominent forum member, known for using Linux (unlike a majority of LMMS' users, like me, who use Windows) is also helpful. Often creating and contributing to discussions with very helpful points, his posts and threads often work as very useful as informative material for members who want to learn more and go the extra step he has taken above and beyond just fiddling around with LMMS.
From having looked around for a few months, I believe that a lot of users who were ever active in the forums, were active a few years ago (and most of these users, were devs and contributors to the codebase). Most of the activity in fact has moved to the discord at
https://lmms.io/chat/ . So there, is the best place to- at least- get development and compiling help and information, discuss codebase, contribution and bugfixes/enhancements.
That being said- welcome to the forums, OP! Presumably, by the time I have written this, musikbear has already welcomed you to the forum with the set of links provided to new users- it's night where I am and he's usually active around this time. (heh, posting this just gave me a warning. He's done just that. He's very prompt :)
