I'm very new to LMMS and music production in general. I wanted to start making music by ear. My question is if there's a way to preview chords on the piano roll the same way you can with single keys?

Do you have a perfect pitch?
If not, doing it by ear is probably not gonna work.
When you have the piano roll open, you can click the keys to hear what they sound like before you place the notes. I wanted to know if you could do that with the chord option selected.

Depends. If you have a chord selected in the instrument window's Stacking options, then yes. But if you have a chord selected in the piano roll editor, you cannot preview. You can only listen, after placing the notes and pressing play.

Yes it is a tiny bit difficult to explain, but i have made a video that demonstrate not only how to pre-'view'/ hear any size chords in piano-roll, even if only a PC-keyboard is used -That will restrict the possible simultaneous played notes to 3, but with this method, you can play any number.
