I want to know how to change BPM during the song, and I have learned to open an automation track, then hold control and drag the BPM into the automation track, but every time I open an automation track it says "Please open an automation pattern with the context menu of a control!" I don't know what to do.

To open an automation track you double-click the purple box. Don't click the icon on the top bar, that initializes only after you open an automation track.

Is quite similar to what you want, but not BPM but for time-signature. The usage of automation-track is however the same
