Collaborations?

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Can someone walk me through the process of collaborating on a song with another producer?
Does one producer work on bass-lines while another works on leads?

I'm interested in collaborating, but I feel like I should at least have an idea as to what the process would be before finding someone.

That being said, I'd love a chance to work with some of you talented folks.
I'm sure there are some good guides/tutorials out there on this, but from my (few) experiences so far I would say it really depends on those involved in a collaboration, what their goal is, and what procedures/rules they can all agree with.

Sometimes things aren't defined and the collaboration is free to stumble to whatever result it can be, which is something that I don't really have a problem with, but others may think differently.
Hmm. I can only imagine there would have to be an idea to start with, whether a theme, sample, or even just a genre. i'm going to look around the web and see if I can find any tips or guides and I'll share them here, just in case anyone else could use them.
Thanks for the reply, by the way! I really like what you have going on in "With Ease". Supper chill and hypnotic almost. The bass that comes in at 1:17 is the best.

Edit:

I found a few online guides. The most helpful information wasn't really HOWTO kind of information, but rather etiquette. Though, online file storage platforms, like dropbox.com were suggested, I think the most helpful tip of all was something along the lines of, have ideas, and be prepared to suggest them in the case that new material is hard to come by, but not to throw them out there so that it's -your- song. Let the other person have a say.

Thanks, glad you like it!

Collaborations can be as simple as two people exchanging a single .mmpz project file and do everything in LMMS without external files/plugins, so some points in those guides don't necessarily apply. If you are going to collaborate for the first time, I would advice to start off small with a project that can be done easily and quickly. It's sort of a balancing act, the finished result should reflect the efforts and inputs of all collaborators involved.

One thing to note is that we are talking about online (long-distance) collaborations here, and there are some obvious differences between online and local collaborations. For example, it's much easier to communicate with those who are in your physical presence, and with the complicated time-zones everywhere you would wish the world was flat. :p
Man, if the world was flat, you'd be annoyed with me knocking on your door all the time, loljk ^ ^
But seriously tho, caLRo's right :_
You make a good point, caLRo. I didn't even think about that. I'd imagine it'd take a while to complete a song if you're bouncing files back and forth. That doesn't even take into account the time differences and personal scheduling.
So.

I'm up for collabs.
What did you have in mind?

I'm mostly familiar with house music, and you?

I'm on Windows with LMMS 1.1.3, and besides what comes with the install of LMMS I also use some free external plugins like Synth1 and EasyQ.
I have synth1 and easyq. I'm also on windows(7) running LMMS 1.1.3.

I'm not sure what genre my stuff would fall under, but 9 times out of 10 I'd say it's some kind of house, or house fushion. I love four on the floor beats and ambience.
