Why oh why does it not work with linux LMMS?

It works with Hydrogen.
It works with Yoshimi.
It works with Ardour.
It works with eveything EXCEPT LMMS.

Why, oh why.

I tried Ubuntu Studio.
I tried Debian.
I tried Fedora.
I tried CentoOS.

Why oh why.
Are you sure your doing it right in LMMS ?

I find it very unlikely it works on Linux but not in LMMS.

So you tried those you should not try..
Get off. AppImage and connect the MIDI HW, power the keyboard up, and then start LMMS.
I have also tried the LMMS versions from the repos (when they work) as well as the flatpak versions etc. The same issue persists. The keyboard doesn't show up in LMMS.

I am not dissing LMMS, it is my mainstay - LMMS rules - but seriously it is not working. I know it should work - that is why I am here. It is one of those things you have to see to believe.

Follow this strict

Unplug keyboard & and remove power cable.
Then shut down computer -completely -Pull the plug!
Then
Insert midi-conector cable
Insert midi-keyboard power cable and turn MIDI-kb ON
(Some lights should get lid)
Insert pc power cable!
Start PC
Start LMMS
Look for your keyboard in MIDI-menu
It does work for me on openSUSE, with an Keystation mini 32.

You did exactly as musikbear asked, and also downloaded the appimage version of LMMS ?
Download, right click and set rights to executable.

https://lmms.io/download#linux

Most Linux distro do not compile LMMS right.

OpenSUSE does, but only after I told them there was a problem with LMMS. :)

If your gonna use opensuse install geekos daw too, and you will have a perfect working LMMS.

I am on openSUE tumbleweed(rolling) but leap will work too.

What are your settings in the MIDI tab in LMMS settings?
Also please post the output of

Code: Select all

aseqdump -l
while the device is plugged in.
