Percussion almost always causes clipping

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
I've been mastering a few of my tracks lately, and I noticed that the percussion always causes the master volume to go into the red zone, even if the percussion itself is in the low yellow. I've tried everything, turning down the rest of the instruments, turning down the percussion, keeping it centered, but I can't seem to get it at the volume I want without causing clipping.

Loudmax fixes the clipping issue, but it feels like there's a slight compression to the music once it's on. Even when the volume doesn't pass the threshold, it sounds like the range is being slightly limited.

Any advice on getting the percussion right while still being loud enough?
Make an Fx channel called drums or percussion.
