What bpm am I thinking in?

Has anybody ever been able to hear an idea for a part of a beat (drums, bass line, melody etc.) & have struggled to translate it into DAW because you can’t figure out what bpm you thought it in? I sound like a mad man for asking such an odd question, but this happens to me fairly often & I need a second opinion. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I sometime imagine slow beats and some other times fast ones, but I’m also unable to tell precisely what the BPM is.

I think I could always tell a tempo, for any music I listen or imagine, but with a ± 40 BPM uncertainty. ^^

Usually I just start at 80 BPM (for “slow” project ideas) or 140-160 BPM (for “fast” ones), and slowly move the tempo up or down early in the making of the project until it suits what I (think I…) imagined. And sometime, I go for a different tempo of what I imagined, and like it, so finally choosing this different tempo finally.

If you have the BPM inside your head, then GPS' link would work!

Besides that, since you are new in Forum

Haha, that’s a tricky one! 😄 I wish I could read minds, but unfortunately, I can’t guess the BPM you’re thinking of.

But hey, if you’re trying to figure out the BPM of a song or a rhythm in your head, you can easily tap it out using https://tapbpm.net/. Just tap along to the beat you’re thinking of, and it’ll tell you the BPM instantly. Super handy!

In LMMS, at the top left, click on "Tools".

Then click on "Tap Tempo".

This will open the tool that measures BPM between clicks inside of that window. I hope this helps!

That is only in development-Nightly. It will most likely be in 1.3 when it is released, but Nightly is not meant to be used for production, it is meant to be used for bug hunting
