How do I get grandson style guitars in my mix?

I’ve been trying to make songs like grandson. I wanna create guitars like his song stick up/6:00. I downloaded a free amp plugin called amp roots, and I played my guitar through it and it just doesn’t work. The guitars sound muddy, and there’s SO MUCH gain in a bad way. How do I get this sound?
