Many apps install with a point & click, however LMMS required resorting to the command line & that is slightly problematic.
any offer of wisdom on the subject? like . . . help?

as additional INFO, I can execute ./Downloads/lmms-1.2.2-linux-x86_64.AppImage and it runs, but can't find its own libraries because its not installed properly. strange stuff!

With an Applemage file, the libs are in the Applemage file.

Thats why it runs on about every Linux distro.

I am on opensuse, so need to be carefull.
But Kx repositires might help ?

Guus, i asked in dev for info about Ubuntu, and the Linux folder structure, (because as a windows-user, i only have serious limited knowledge about Linux, and absolutely NON about MAC..).
It would be great is you could explain the LMMS-folders in an Ubuntu installation, because our eBook is absolutely without any useable info, and that is a bad thing!

What we need to inform our users about is
In What folders does Ubuntu place

1) The DOT-file .lmmsrc.xml?
2) LMMS FACTORY Instruments/Samples/LADSPA-plugins?
3) The USERs own Instruments/Samples/Projects -eg users working directory

When the AppImage is used?
and
If a pacMan Ubuntu package is used

That is info we need to supply in gitBook, but we only does that for windows.
If i understood you correctly then 2) is inside the AppImage?

I cant find that dot file. on my Linux.

What I did find is a folder called Debian.
In it it says:

Code: Select all

usr/share/applications
usr/share/bash-completion
usr/share/icons
usr/share/lmms/[a-o]*
usr/share/lmms/presets/[A-Y]*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Alf42red-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/CapDan
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/EsoXLB-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Impulslogik-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Jousboxx-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Momo64-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Oglsdl-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Settel-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Socceroos-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/TameAnderson-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/demos/Thomasso-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/shorties/Crunk*
usr/share/lmms/projects/shorties/Greshz-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/shorties/Surrender-*
usr/share/lmms/projects/templates
usr/share/lmms/projects/tutorials
usr/share/lmms/[q-z]*
usr/share/man
usr/share/mime
debian/lmms.xpm usr/share/pixmaps/

Problem 1, I am not on Ubuntu.
I use something like the kx repositories, but then for openSUSE. (its called geekos daw)
This repositories compiles LMMS for me.

applmage file does work, but I can't look inside it?
KATE (a text editor) complains.

So we need an Ubuntu user.

Thats great !
I asked trefs and he said that it is different from builds.. iow it has changed several times..
Oo Dear..
So it is hard to say generally.
I would expect dot-file to be in the lmms.exe folder, and that would be inside the AppImage (!)
If so only win-users can fiddle with settings directly in .lmmsrc.xml..
😶

It sounds like you're encountering issues with LMMS, which, while executable as an AppImage, isn't functioning correctly due to its inability to locate its libraries. AppImages are meant to be self-contained, but sometimes dependencies or file paths can cause problems. Since you've successfully executed it with `./Downloads/lmms-1.2.2-linux-x86_64.AppImage`, but it's not finding its libraries, ensure the AppImage has executable permissions (`chmod +x lmms-1.2.2-linux-x86_64.AppImage`) and try running it from a terminal to see if any specific errors about missing libraries are reported. If it’s still not working correctly, consider moving the AppImage to a more standard location like `/opt` or `~/Applications`, and ensure it has appropriate permissions. Alternatively, you might want to look into installing LMMS through a package manager if available for your distribution, as this method usually handles dependencies more gracefully.

You could try to ask here if you have issues with LMMS on Ubuntu.
