I read that the nightly app image works with WINE 9, but that doesn't seem to be the case in my environment.

lmms-1.3.0-alpha.1.659+g12632e6b5-linux-x86_64.AppImage
Carla does not appear to be installed. That's OK, please ignore any related library errors.
Jack appears to be installed on this system, so we'll use it.

I also tried with wine-staging from WineHQ - same issue.

Can someone point me to settings or specific WINE versions that do work with nightly?

Sorry, that was one of the many rabbit holes I went down figuring out what to do. Probably on the Discord platform.
Are you saying that nightly does not work with WINE 9?

It sounds like the nightly build might have compatibility issues with WINE 9. Consider testing with different WINE versions or ensure Carla is properly installed on your system. You might also try setting LMMS_LV2_DEBUG=1 for more details. Afraid not.
My best advice is to not use wine9
Lmms AppImage work fine with wine < 9, and the Nightly builds are not sure to include feature from special reps.
I still do believe one such targeted rep did managed to work with wine9, but that fix has not made it into Master ..yet(?)
The reason may be that other issues appeared. You all need to understand that making a 'fix' for one issue may make an other fail, and then that special 'fix' cant be added to Master before the bug is ironed out, and that may not be easy/ possible.
Wine<9 works. That should be the preferred choice atm.

What made things a lot easier for me, was to use a music production repository.
