I've been attempting to use variations in time signature mid-composition and there seems to be a serious problem ( or operator incompetence . . . ) any how an attempt to use 5/4 time in the first bar and then switch to 6/4 in the second bar doesn't work because the "piano roll" function can only accept one time signature across the entire range that it has, or am I doing something wrong? anyone have any wisdom on this subject?

You need to automate the Time-Signature change Both values must have own automation track, and its best to let the curve have minimal slope

Switching time signatures can be a real headache! I remember struggling with that when I was working on a piece that jumped between 5/4 and 6/4. In my DAW, I had to figure out how to insert a time signature change marker, which was a bit hidden in the menu. If yours doesn’t allow for that, maybe try exporting each section as its own track and then piecing them together in a new project.
