"Popping" at end of note

Hello, I'm new to LMMS and DAWs in general. Something I've noticed, all of the synth plugins that come with LMMS have a very definite "pop" when the note is released. Some plugins are worse than others.

For example: New project, "Triple Oscillator" as the only instrument, in default (no presets). Bring up the instrument config, and swipe the mouse across the virtual keyboard, a pop is heard at each note change. This also occurs if I use an external midi keyboard, although it is less pronounced.

Is this simply a side effects of the plugins? Will VST(1,2,3) provide better quality instruments?
Or am I having hardware problems? I've tried ALSA, OSS, PulseAudio, and SDL; no change.

LMMS v1.2.2 running on
Ubuntu v24.04, configured for low latency kernel, running on
Acer Aspire 3 laptop with AMD Ryzen 7520U proc and 8 Gb ram.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Yes, that is because the instruments are 'raw', and has no sound-design. The factory-presets are with designed sounds, and should not pop/ klick (if made properly..)

Pops ao clicks are from starting ao stopping a sound at a position in the spectrum that is not at 0dB.
The way to fix this is to invoke the envelope of the instrument, and add a few ms of attack, and a few ms of release. This make the instrument 'ease' into resp. out the sound-generation and the pop-click artefact is removed.

You can learn about sound-design here:

But there are many factory-presets in LMMS, and especially the zynAddSubFX are of high quality

Yes, I have played with attack and release rates, with varying degrees of success. Some plugins are better than others.

Thx.
