Roland Go Keys - managing keyboard instruments from DAW LMMS

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

Hi.
Of course I have USB communication between keyboard and LMMS.
LMMS sees the keyboard and I can control sounds in LMMS with the keyboard.
The problem is the direction in the other direction.

I would like to see in LMMS the instruments included in the Roland GO Keys keyboard, so that, for example, in the piano roll I can define notes that would play in Roland with its own sounds.

How to import instruments from Roland to LMMS.
Or. How to configure LMMS to send control to Roland and to play what the LMMS piano roll gives.

Sorry that is not implemented.

In LMMS it's a bit janky but what you want to do is pull in an empty track (like an AudioFileProcessor with nothing loaded) and set up the output in the midi tab of the instrument window. The midi standard doesnt allow you to see the instruments directly in the software but you can control them with the appropriate channel and program numbers.

That is clever. I dont have a midi-KB so i cant try that. Do you think all midi-KB will be able to use that method? But how would an export of that project be possible?

This is the only way lmms can control external midi hardware and all of them work the same way, that's why its called a standard. Of course lmms can only export sounds generated by itself, so you would need to play the project in realtime and record the audio output of the hardware synth. MIDI only transfers control signals between devices, not sound.

Exactly what i thought, and why this is kind of clunky, with the need of even more hw for the recording.
