effects problem

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

Hi musicians, I have a problem with effects external to the program, which I cannot apply because LMMS only recognizes them as instruments, while as effects they do not appear in the list of available ones.

This is a followup on

I am new of LMMS so I need help to understand, for example, how to use external effects... because if I put in the plugins directory a new .dll file than I can use it in LMMS but only as Vst and not as an effect... why? How it works to apply the effect to another Vst?

LMMS version is both 1.22 and 1.3

yup, and imediately the issue is clear: You have used Program-files inside Windows-library as your plugin-library!
You cant do that!
Program-files belongs to Windows!
The correct library to use for your own LMMS-files is under LMMS in your USERNAME| Documents|
Eg like:
Image

That goes for all your own files. They should never be inside your windows-library!
Change that and let us know if it works.

It will be clear to you, but I still don't understand what I need to change...
which of the various items should I change? The first? I tried changing it to the LMMS directory where the effects dlls are located but it doesn't even see them like that

When you make a default installation LMMS, you get two different LMMS-libraries.
The first is for LMMS' own files. If we expand this library the path look like
C:\Program Files\LMMS\plugins\ladspa\VSTeffects
That library is made by Windows during the installation process, and it belongs 100% to Windows!
You should regard Windows as owner and Administrator for any library you find in either Program Files and Program Files(X86).
Those two libraries are of-the-limit for users!
Never do anything manually in those libraries (unless you are a superuser with special knowledge and tools).
The second library that is created is in your USER domain is
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\lmms\
Here you have ALL LMMS folders that belongs to You, and in those folder all Your own files!
One of the folders in this library is Samples
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\lmms\samples
This is where you should copy all your VST-Instruments to!
You should make a top-subfolder and subfolders for everyone that uses banks or art-work, else it will get confusing and messy!
But you also find the folder plugins!
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\lmms\plugins
Thát folder is where all your own VST-Effects should be placed!
You should make a top-subfolder and subfolders for everyone that uses banks or art-work, else it will get confusing and messy!
For your clean-up you need to move everything you have in Program-files, and place it in the correct folders of your
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\lmms\
Simplest way out of current mess, is to backup all you know you have made or copied to folder inside Program-files, and uninstall LMMS completely. Get a new 1.3-Alpha, install it default, and copy the backuped files into the correct folders.
Let us know the outcome :)

i uninstalled and reinstalled the alpha version…
I put all the instrumental plugins in the C: - user - name - documents - lmms - samples folder
I put the effects in the C: - user - name - documents - lmms - plugins folder
... but once LMMS has been launched, the effects that I put in the "plugins" folder above are not in the program list... but if you load them into the VST as instrumental plugins it will find them and start them, even if they don't sound being them effects.
Maybe it's the effects I downloaded that aren't good? Maybe you could suggest another source of supply

Did you also make sure that the filepaths in Settings are identical to the actual paths you have made on your PC?

As effect try this tiny good eq
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/nyquis ... electronix

friend, the download link for this equalizer must have expired because the download doesn't start... anyway I checked, the directories are there, but the only effects I can apply are the basic ones from LMMS, and they are truly pitiful. I can't explain why out of four different types of distorters there isn't one that doesn't transform the sound of the guitar into a noise that resembles raspberries... it's probably me who doesn't know how to use them... yet I've been distorting the guitar for a lifetime, really and virtually, and I've never had any problems
