I’ve been using LMMS for music production, and while I appreciate the software, I feel that the Beat/Bassline Editor is quite limited and can discourage creativity.

I would like to suggest several workflow and structural improvements to LMMS, particularly regarding the Beat/Bassline Editor and mixer system.

Beat/Bassline Editor limitations
The current editor lacks flexible subdivision control, forcing users to switch to the Piano Roll for more detailed rhythmic work. This disrupts workflow and reduces creative efficiency. Implementing adjustable grid resolution or per-step subdivision directly within the Beat/Bassline Editor would significantly improve usability.

Drum rack architecture
Introducing support for multiple, independent drum racks (e.g., acoustic vs. electronic kits) would improve project organization. Ideally, each drum slot within a rack should support independent routing to the mixer, allowing for proper mixing and processing of individual elements (kick, snare, hi-hats, etc.).

Mixer channel grouping
The mixer would benefit from channel grouping or bus grouping functionality. This would allow users to organize related tracks (e.g., drums, synths, FX) and apply processing at a group level, improving both workflow and mix control.

Overall, these enhancements would make LMMS more flexible, scalable, and suitable for more complex production environments.

I agree, I am coming from Waveform 11 but I wanted to move to a FOSS project.

There was a "Folder" system in Waveform 11, where I could place every piano-roll track in the folder and process them all together, which also helped organize muting tracks. The folders could also be "rolled up" so that none of those tracks were shown. I could also probe the levels on each folder and set gain and automate the folder's plugins.

It almost unusable without this feature. I care a bit less about Drum and Bass simplifications, I can just use the piano roll but I can't go without better organization of instruments, and I would need folders or some other nomenclature that does the same thing like "groups" like Drums, Basses, Leads, Keys, Atmos, SFX, etc.
