Has anyone here sampled the African kalimba in LMMS?

Hi,

I've been working on an ambient project with ethnic-inspired sounds for about three weeks now, and I'm struggling to find a good way to integrate the African kalimba into my production workflow in LMMS. I downloaded some samples from Freesound (around ten clean 44.1 kHz files) and loaded them into AudioFileProcessor, but the result sounds a bit flat. The instrument's natural sustain gets lost as soon as I change the pitch or use an envelope with too short an attack or release. I've tried increasing the release time and adding a subtle reverb with the Zita plugin, which helps a little, but it's still not quite there.
Do you recreate the metallic overtones with ZynAddSubFX, or do you use a different approach? I'm not very comfortable with additive synthesis yet, so if anyone has a preset or a project they're willing to share, I'd really appreciate it.

Try SF2 player, pretty sure I've seen a few kalimba SF2 files.
If you want to stick with your own samples, maybe add some effects like reverb or adjust EQ to better match the sound you want.
