Installed LMMS 0.4.12 32bit on Vista Home service pack 2, 2 GB ram, 2 GHz HP laptop. Playing demos and samples results in short bursts of sound 20 per sec, on 1/3 of time, silence 2/3 of time (checked with Audacity which works fine). Sounds like a percussion machine gun. Sound takes about 7 seconds to decay to silence when stopping it.

Uninstall-reinstall, lengthening buffer, checking path for illegal characters to no avail.

hmm.. try to see if you by chance dont have SDL chosen in
edit|settings|setup|audio
It should be pr default, but perhaps ..
If you monitor you cpu usage - is that normal when you run lmms?

That was it. Set audio to SDL and now sound is good.

Kudos and thank you.
