help mixing samples with synth (Triphop track)

I'm trying to make something inspired by Massive Attack and The Social Network: darkish triphop / industrial
https://soundcloud.com/rob-rankin-2/far ... -niotom-ni
[re-uploaded]
... I can't seem to get the sampled piano and drums to fit with the synth sounds, which I otherwise like. I'd really value any comments whether they fit or sound out of place. Maybe too much reverb?

Also, I'd be curious how my Massive-Attack-inspired bass translates on other setups? I've read on a few forums that low bass is the most unpredictable and difficult to mix, especially for the home-studio producer without the best accoustic-treatment. I have a new appreciation for Massive Attack and how they manage to have their tight melodic lows translate so well on different speakers/rooms, whereas mine just booms :(

Thanks!

I think that high pitched sound is out of tune ?

you use detuning on several instruments -right?
I think there are clashing freq. so there is no 'clean' space for the freq, and that creates a 'muddle' also you deep bass is very close to clip, so you could subtract some reso, and get rid of that distortion

You both have a good ear for that detuning. I guess I always detune to taste: I like it! Hopefully that's just a genre thing and I'm not entirely off base.

Thanks for pointing that out. I already had three compressors on the bass, trying to get it to behave. Some post-processing in Audacity with a fast-lookahead limiter seems to have gotten ride of the 0db distortion. I re-uploaded, but its still a WIP.

I'm a bit discouraged that you heard a lot of mud still.... I need to cut something, somewhere, hmmm...

Thanks for the feedback!
