Annoying Crackly Noise

So I just recently got the new update 1.1.0, and I was glad to see it fixed a problem I was having with exporting. However, now I have a new problem where get these weird "crackles" here and there throughout my song. They seem to happen at random, and they happen at different spots in the song each time I play it. The infuriating thing is that they appear when I export the song as well.

The song is one I was working on before the update, could that have something to do with it? I haven't yet tried making any new songs after the update so I'm not sure. I also tried isolating each instrument to see if it was a particular one causing the problem, but it seems to happen with all of them so I don't think it's one of the instruments. I might try playing it with all the instruments disabled to see if it's still there.

Anyway If I can't get this fixed I don't think I can make anything more on LMMS. ;_;

so if i understand you, an old project, that used to replay perfectly, has now after the 1.1 update started to play with artefacts?

Does anything else look suspicious with these artefact crackle, like
* cpu-asage
* spectrum changes to yellow or red

Do you have the same settings as earlier (check sound-device especially)

I have had the same issue on two PCs, both running the same LMMS 1.1.3 on Windows 10. I've tried adjusting bitrate, sample rate, and depth in export, and I have tried adjusting my sound card's sample rate, and yet the problem persists. I'm definitely not capping CPU on either PC.
Spectrum is green the whole time, especially when the artifacts are occurring (while the song is nearly silent).

Do you have any strange symbols in your Settings menu's "folder paths?"
eg. * # % ^ etc.
If so, then remove them all.

Also, changing the Audio device, in the settings menu, from port audio to SDL might help too.

Is your device SDL ?
Just as Brandy says, that is preferred for windows.
But we could just be talking about attack and release artefacts

Is your device SDL ?

I just checked, both computers I've tried are on SDL, and paths are all fine, although the paths switch between / and \ for folders.

I'm gonna go take a look at envelopes now, since I haven't messed around with them too much

edit: Both of the instruments in use when the artifacts occur are using ZynAddSubFX, and it says that it doesn't support envelope.

Aha! That could probably be the culprit.

I remember when I had an audio problem in Lmms, I checked the Settings menu, and noticed weird symbols and mixed up slash symbols in the folder paths.
So, I fixed all of the slash symbols, and put them all in the same direction.
It was kinda tiring to do.
And believe it or not, it worked. I got sound back.

On windows there should not be a / in any path as far as I know.

Examples:
Windows: c:\users\yourename\ documents

Linux however: /Home/documents

Well, I got my hopes up, and probably jinxed it in the process...
I went ahead and tried changing all of my directories to /, and it had no effect.
Then I tried \, and the problem remained.

I've gone ahead and moved the whole song forward a couple of measures, since the artifact only occurs at the beginning (like the first second or two) and I'll lop off the silence in Audacity as a workaround for now.

Upon exporting each instrument as a separate track, I discovered that the artifact is only happening on the track for the "Fade Down Echo" ZynAddSubFx preset. I wonder if it could be a setting in the preset itself. I'm going to keep messing around with this tomorrow.

Also, and I probably should have mentioned this earlier, I'm running 64-bit windows, so my directories have parenthesis in them for "Program Files (x86)". I'll try changing to a different directory tomorrow.

It is not that the instruments so not use envelopes, they are just not external, but internal, eg inside zasfx
But lets break this down:
First
Make a recording of the noise problem, and upload it on lmms-soundcloud

Then upload the project as mmp anywhere, and im me the link, then i will take a look at it, and compare it to the sound-recording. I think it is clipping or interference of a kind, but unlikely related to path in your setup. (The issue here was that lmms cant preserve setups, if ascii-chars are used)
