Piano-Roll-Edits using linux

Hi,
i have the "problem" that editing my piano-rolls is sometimes a bit annoying.
When you use the mouse at the right border of a note-bar, the mouse-cursor switches to the scale-mode, but when clicking left at this time, there is a new note created in many times. The border, in which the mousecursor can size the bar is very, very small.
Can this be pimped to the bars can be lengthen or shorted easier? Is there a keyboard-shortcut to do such things?

Thanks a lot for your answers

Which distro are you using ?

This happens to me too btw on openSUSE 13.1.

I just click the erasor first and then the pencil, to solve you're first problem.

Second problem, maybe lower the mouse resolution ?

I am using Archlinux in the actual version, build from an evo-lution-basis. I use Mate as desktop-environment.
