This is not a reply to the question, rather the same issue. I am not very familiar with forums, but i think most moderators/users don't like double/triple/... the same question being asked. So here is my situation:
Two days ago I bought a used keyboard that has midi. I also bought a cheep midi to usb cable from ebay.
In general i was able to discover that the set up is working, but not with LMMS.
Earlier today I posted on the LMMS irc channel at freenode but maybe it is better to repost in a forum post - which is 'safer' timewise.
Since i kept the post from irc and it is rather big, i copy paste (almost):
hello everyone, could somebody help me a bit with my midi connection to lmms?
so, i use lmms 1.1.3 on ubuntu 16.04 x86_64 my kernel : 4.4.0-31-generic
i recently bought a cheap/used keyboard that has midi output
i also got the special cable for midi to usb connection
yesterday and today i try to figure out how to connect to lmms
i know i need to configure settings for midi and add input midi for triple oscilator (as an example)
lmms configuration about midi is always set to dummy
even if a change it , restart goes back to dummy
dmesg shows the usb cable
aconnect -l shows the midi
aseqdump -p ## shows three things : consantly 'clock', periodically 'active sensing' and the keys i press on the midi whenever i do that so i get 'note on/off ....'
amidi -l shows the midi device
i was able to see response with the following programms : lynthesia, vmpk, hydrogen (response i mean hitting a key on the keyboard, resulted in a "hitting a key on the soft piano" but no sound if i recall)
i tried experimenting a bit with jack connections, no good results
while exploring the net for solving this , someone proposed to have pulseaudio cooperate with jack, using this command (in the prestart script of jack) 'pactl set-default-sink jack_out'
in the connections of jack, tab MIDI does not show anything, while tab ALSA provides, among others, the midi device
lsusb shows the device as well
another application that works, pianobooster (works == responce from midi, however no sound)
midi interface (at configurations) provides the following to select from: alsa-raw, alsa-sequential, dummy, oss-raw . Somehow i would expect to have a jack related one, or not???
i just managed the following: started qsynth (which i think actually is a gui for fluidsynth) and with jack connections i can play my midi. However still not appearing in the configuration of lmms
reinstallation did not help
I am able to save configuration changes in general (i just removed an error in the paths, extra slash)
setting audio interface to ALSA can be saved (after restart it is stil there), midi can not be saved after this change still
i tried this a little bit as well , a2jmidid , no luck
ok, i give it up for now, hopefully someone sees this and can provide some help, i ll come back later to see
Well this is my situation, any help would be much appreciated!
