cannot hear some samples

hi
i have downloaded a couple of sound files to use in projects. they are WAV files. I can play them with my media player, but for some reason when I try to use them in lmms, there is only silence. What's more, the wavelength appears somehow corrupted when I open it in lmms (i am not sure how else to describe what I mean: the wavelength is simply a flat line)
I tried converting the files from WAV to MP3 but there was still no sound in lmms
this is one of the files:
https://www.freesound.org/people/Erokia/sounds/337774/
This has happened before with a couple of other downloaded sound files.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thank you
niall

Hi!
Works just fine here.
I tried converting the files from WAV to MP3 but there was still no sound in lmms
WAV works, not MP3.
What machine/OS are you on?
Which version of LMMS are you using?

Since the file in question works fine for zonkmachine, i would gues that you have a setting in that particular AFP that is erroneous.
Try to drag a factory sample directly into the wave-display-window
What then?
Also
drag the problem sample directly into the wave-display-window of a working factory AFP
What then?
Besides that, not all 'wave'files works. The reason is that wave has several versions, and on top of that, wavefiles can be 'protected'. That is sometimes the case of wavefiles from karaokee-packs.
Those can be -sometimes- be 'fixed' in a program like Audacity, but even Audacity cant change all.
But the file worked for zonkmachine, so the format is not an issue here

hi zonkmachine
i am using lmms 0.4.9 on a crappy laptop (Toshiba Satellite: Vista)
@musikbear: i don't know what AFP means, nor a wave display window
can you elaborate?
thank you

Wooo! Have you tried a new(er) version
We are at
1.1.3
0.4.9 is
serious outdated
https://lmms.io/download/#windows
try an upgrade.

AFP is AudioFileProcessor
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=AudioFileProcessor
That is the instrument that you load samples in
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wo ... th_Samples
The waveform display-window is the component with the sample-length

here in AFP.
You can load a
new sample directly into the AFP by dragging it into this area on the AFP.

hi, thanks very much. i will upgrade (i don't know why my version is so old; i only downloaded it 2 months ago)
if I upgrade does it just overwrite the version I have (I have a terrible fear of losing files): I have all the mmpz projects saved in a separate folder just in case
and i will try to put the sample in the AFP
thanks again

I always recommend to backup, before install. That goes for
everything, not just LMMS
LMMS is extremely safe, but windows can budge the job .. :/
