Soundfont not working

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi all,

I tried to import a midi file, and first had to download a general user soundfont and specify it in the settings, but after I did this, I still can't get the midi file to play.

Looking in these forums, I found a soundfont file called 8MBGMSFX.SF2
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1527&start=10

I have also tried another that I downloaded from here;
http://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php

Both of them are located in a folder I called Soundfont in my documents folder, and the settings window allowed me to select them. I also had to restart LMMS but when I reopen the project, the midi doesn't play.

The midi file I downloaded came from a music website and plays perfectly (even with the flute instrument) but won't play in LMMS.
I have managed to get it working, but I don't know why it's working now and not before.

I had to click the SF2 name to open the plugin, and then select the soundfont file from its folder tool - which seems like a duplication that isn't intuitive.

Now I can change the instruments according to a list within the soundfont file, and listen to the midi file.

My hope is that I will be able to study the midi file piano roll so that I can duplicate the notes in my own version of the file.

If i understand you 'working' is not right. You should have the generalUserSF in the Path&folder you specified in your setup:

Then when you import a midi through the File-dialog | import, All tracks in the midifile should load, and all should have GeneralUser automatically inserted -BUT..
If you try to load a midi, and the loading stops at 66%, then it is a midifile issue.
Was that the case?
If so, Download the free and very useful Anvil-studio
http://www.anvilstudio.com/
It will run fine together with lmms, and you can export individual pieces to midi-1, and those can be imported in lmms
Anvil is good software!

Yes and you can also study how the midi-composer makes harmonies and chords. Studying midi-files is definitely recommended!
