What does the resolution envelope affect?

So, occasionally, when I'm in a creative slump, I sandbox with the triple OSC. Can someone tell me exactly what, in technical terms, the resolution envelope affects? (it's the third of the tabbed LFO windows) I'm pretty sure it would make a big difference in sound design. Thanks!

It's actually called resonance, and it's relatively minor compared to volume and filter envelopes. However, it can still be useful at times.

I don't know the technical definition of resonance with respect to synthesizing sounds (I know that physics it has to do with inducing oscillations, but I don't think that's related), but from playing around with plugins in LMMS, I can describe it as the "squelch" or the "buzz" of the synth. It's really hard to describe, but basically, when you increase the resonance the sound typically gains noise in the higher end of the spectrum. This differs from synth to synth, and the particular filter you have applied makes a big difference too, but essentially, resonance allows you to adjust the feedback or something. Most of the time I just adjust it a bit until it sounds good (never turn it too high IMO) but I don't apply an envelope.

A little bit ago I did actually use the resonance envelope in the 3xOsc to make a funky bass sound. I'll upload it to the sharing platform to hopefully illustrate what it does.

And thats a good example. Reso is also really important in acid, it is with the reso envelope your get those funky sounds. The classic 303 is also depending on resonance.
So just play with the envelope!
You can best hear the res-effect, when the filter is near closed.
Uhoh -ya, with no filter, you have no reso!
So first part is to choose a filter.
Be very careful with moog-filter!! Reso should NEVER be more than 0.8!!
Your speakers or ears can take damage!

Yup, made that mistake before, not doing it again.
But, I was actually talking about the reso graphic envelope, the one with the ADSR knobs, (which I thought was resolution but i guess was not). I guess that the envelope affects how much the reso knob affects the synth then?

The ADSR envelope in the resonance tab performs the exact same function as in the volume and filter cutoff tabs. It just lets you adjust the attack, decay, sustain (+hold) and release of the amount of resonance.

More specifically, with filters in LMMS the Resonance knob controls the amplitude boost at the Cutoff knob's set frequency. Technically, you are setting how much of the sound at the cutoff point is run back through the filter.

TLDR when you turn the resonance knob up you are boosting the frequency that the cutoff is set at.

Interesting, thanks for the explanation. Does this apply to the notch filter? Also on a random side note, what's the point of the allpass filter? It literally does nothing.
