Tutorial 9 8-) (We use Synth 1 Vst.)

How to make Brandy's:
SWELL SOUND

First off, Bring Synth 1 Vst into Lmms. :D

1) Open a good old default initial sound bank. :)

-----------------------------------------------------------

2) For this example, we will select the Saw symbol, for Osc 1 and Osc 2.
Image
Or, if you want, put Osc 2, on another, symbol.

-----------------------------------------------------------

3) Leave Mix and the others, on their default positions seen in the pic.
Image

-----------------------------------------------------------

4) Raise the Osc 1 det dial to 8 or a bit more, if you want.
Image
Det stands for Detune, in case anyone one wanted to know.

-----------------------------------------------------------

5) In the good ol' Amplifier section.
Image
A = 82 or slighty more, if you want.
D = 24 or 20
S = 0
R = 64

Things to note: Turning the A dial, to a number less than 82, means, the sound builds up faster.
Turning the dial slighty higher than 82, means the sound will take longer to build up.

----------------------------------------------------------

6) In the Filter section.
Image
frq = 81

res = 14

sat = 40 or slightly more.

And make sure vel is on Green.

----------------------------------------------------------

7) LP 24 is what we want. :P
Image

----------------------------------------------------------

8 ) In the Unison section.
Image
Press the Unison button to turn it on. Green means it is on.
And turn the Pitch dial to 7.

----------------------------------------------------------

9) In the Tempo Delay section.
Image

We turn the dials.....

fdbk = 72

d/w = 10, or slightly more if you want.

And that's it. :D
----------------------------------------------------------

10) Now, we need to test out and hear our Swell sound. So we'll make some test notes. :geek:

Make this test chord in the piano roll. And make it loop. :)

Or, try test chord example 2.

I hope you enjoyed this tut.

Big Special Thanks to Chill Fox for requesting this tut. 8-)
Woohoo! Can't wait to try it! Thanks homie <3
Great tut! One question, I wanna make it a pad, and not end so quickly. I can't find a Sustenance Dial.

Okay.

In the Amplifier section, the letter marked S, is the sustain dial. :D
Turning it down to 0 removes the sustain. And you get shorter sounds.
Turning it above 0, means longer sounds. :D

This is what the letters mean:
A = Attack
D = Decay
S = Sustain
R = Release.

The Filter Section, has the same dials and letters too. He! He! 8-)
Great job on the tutorial by the way! It's hard because a lot of people struggle with making their tutorials vague so you end up just getting very puzzled but this was really ez! :)

I'm really happy, you found this one easy to follow. :)
Sometimes, it does take a good bit of work, to make these tutorials easy to understand and precise, so everyone
can understand them and not get confused. :D

As an Update, some Lmms users requested Lead sound tuts, so I'll be making a few of those soon.
So everyone can have an idea, how some are made. :)

Also, the Growl sound tut, ACYDE and others asked for, is coming soon too. Ha! Ha! ;)
Oh, nice brandy! :)
Okay, I am working on a FB track, yet the drop's main swell sounds a bit off in terms of pitch.
I tried other pitches but they all seemed a bit "off".

Is there anyway to fix this?

Okay. If its the Swelly sound from the tut I posted, I suggest that you mess with, the Unison Pitch.
There is a secret with Synth 1, I discovered, that many people don't know. ;)
In the Swell sound case, try 0, or 7 or 12...... Unison Pitch.
See for yourself, if it works. Play around with the keys/notes, until you hear the correct sound you want.
Sometimes, you might need to use chords instead. Good luck! :)

Growl tut coming soon.
I'm working on it right now. ;)
