As a piano arranger, I am trying to be able to record a piano arrangement so that I can import it to Musescore to save time in the notation process. Maybe that's hopelessly optimistic; but, I'm eager to try. When I play a chord, it sounds really muddy on the playback (using piano01.ogg instrument) in the mid-keyboard range. Is there a way around this besides playing in the higher octaves?
Once I have recorded I can play back from the piano roll. When I try to export I get a message "This project is empty so exporting makes no sense. Please put some items into Song Editor first!". What do I have to do to be able to export?

You'll get a much better sound if you use a soundfont via the SF2Player instrument. Trying to use a single sample like piano01.ogg as a full range instrument doesn't really work.

However LMMS doesn't really do MIDI export. It only exports audio i.e. .wav or .ogg which doesn't help a lot with producing sheet music. If you're using Windows you might find it more practical to record your arrangement in a different program e.g. the free Anvil Studio http://www.anvilstudio.com/

Anvil will play via the Windows standard GM soundfont, not brilliant but a lot better than pian01.ogg. it can also do the notation editing but you need a paid add-on to get it to print. Alternatively to keep it all free you can export the MIDI from Anvil and import to Musescore for editing/printing.
