LMMS hangs on the first run

Hello!

Just downloaded and installed your application for the first time (LMMS 0.4.15, WinXP SP3 32-bit) but I cannot use it.

The first time it asked me to confirm the creation of the application's working folder, then displayed the splash image and just kept displaying it continuously using about 50% of CPU for this task. I killed the program from Task Manager, then ran it again. No improvements, except it doesn't have any more questions about the working folder.

What could be the problem?

do you have any unicode charachters in ANY of you installation folders? lmms can only handle ascii-chars in all part of the program.

the other issue could be the sp3-bug.
Several has posted weird and inconsitent posts, that points to sp3 as a problem. search on sp3 and you can follow the discussion.

No, there are no Unicode characters.

Here is my experiment, maybe helps.

Uninstalled 0.4.15, installed 0.4.12 and it opened successfully, initially displaying window "Setup LMMS". There I noticed that directory paths have forward and backward slashes mixed, but probably that's not a problem. When I confirmed the configuration, I got a "Project Recovery" pop-up with message "It looks like the last session did not end properly. Do you want to recover the project of this session?". I chose no, and the main window was ready at last.
Then I uninstalled 0.4.12, installed 0.4.15 again. And again it hung on the splash screen.
Then I uninstalled 0.4.12, installed 0.4.14 - it hung the same as 0.4.15.
I uninstalled 0.4.14, installed 0.4.13 - it opened successfully.
I uninstalled 0.4.13, installed 0.4.14-rc - it hung.
