Yes, that is a well known problem, and even though it does not help you right now, the bug has been solved, and next release has flawless midi-import.
Unfortunately, some other serious problems hold this release back.
You can try to use a program like Anvil-Studio, and see if it can help to save the file as midi0, but unfortunately i doubt it.
I can make a file for you, if you give me a link to the midi-file, though :)
