Is it possible to "split" a midi keyboard in LMMS?(for example, set a bass track to only detect the lower octaves, and another track to only detect the higher notes?
You can usually do that in the keyboard itself by assigning different MIDI channels to different parts of the keyboard and then using the MIDI tab to tell the LMMS instrument to respond to only one channel.
So I guess it depends what keyboard you're talking about.
