VST Plugin Trouble

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hey,

So I've been trying to incorporate some VST Synths into my project to make things more interesting. I've been using VeSTige, and the most recent version of LMMS on an unsteady Lenovo ideapad, 64-bit.

If I use vestige, and import an instrument, but have no notes, I can save, x out, and come back, and it'll all be fine.

If I have any amount of midi content, however, if I close, x out, and try to come back, it will crash every single time.

Now granted, I've had a bunch of silly problems in the past, like the GUI not working correctly, but each of those issues was a fluke, and ultimately passed. This one is consistent. Any ideas? Thx.
Any particular VST synth(s)? I use quite a few and none of them have problems like that.

BTW when you say "midi content" do you mean notes you've entered in Piano Roll or imported MIDI files. There are often problems with different types/formats of MIDI file.

And a few rules for posting and using the right sub-forum :)

Using VeSTige, with most recent version of LMMS, will normally work just fine.

Unsteadyness will ofcause not aid you :)

But here:

Is what you need to know about using vst.

In your case i think its a untrusty vst. There are a few,
These are tested,

but significantly more does work.

For functionality tests, please dl one of those on the list, and try that.

We also need to know your OS + sp, if there still are issues.

So far as I can tell, using vestige for any synth is where the problem is. Basically, vestige is the problem, not the actual plugins.

And to clarify, when I say "midi content", I mean it as a blanket term for Piano Roll notes, sometimes copied over from other tracks, sometimes original to the track.

The thing I'm after here is is this an lmms problem, or a problem with my laptop?
Then since I regularly use several synths, though mainly Synth1 and a couple of the DSK ones, via Vestige on both Win7 and Win10 laptops and nothing like that has ever happened it sounds like a problem with your laptop.

What version of LMMS ? What O.S ? 32bit/64bit ? How much memory ? What sound device are you using ?

I don't recall, but I downloaded the most recent version a few months ago. It's an OEM disc version of Windows 7 (perfectly legal, just a bit imperfect overall), 64-bit, 4 gigs of memory, Crappy $5 headphones from Walmart through audio jack (I'm a broke student in case you couldn't tell ;) .

Also worth noting: It's a hijacked Lenovo ideapad. Lenovo, as I'm sure you're aware, has spyware built into both the hard disk and the BIOS. So basically we popped the hard disk out, cleared all the partitions, installed OEM Windows 7, and set it up so that it'd never go online.

Its relationship with LMMS has been shaky throughout, but I always managed to get the function I wanted. Now it's getting in my way, so I'm considering an upgrade. In the meantime, is there any advice you can give me? Thx.
