Does the headphones work for any other software?
How many metal parts does your headset have? ( 2 rings + tip, 3 rings + tip... ? )

If your headphones have a 3.5mm jack it should be as easy as plugging them into the headphone jack. If the phones have a 1/4" jack you'll need an adaptor. That should also cut off the speakers. Doesn't that work for you ?

Brandi already welcomed you, but Here are all our important links:

And a few rules for Avatars, signatures, posting and using the right sub-forum :)
Your perihelia problem is transparent in respect to lmms. If The sound comes out of your speakers, then the headphone / plug is defect -or you need to make a selection in the UI for the soundcard, in your case read the macbook manual.
It is not a lmms bug. I would guess that you could get better help on a mac user-forum
