He used a minor key and threw the relative major 3rd in there at times. It's a pretty common technique in classical.

It's okay, most people here are (there are exceptions including me). However, It only helps to learn :p I was actually thinking of writing a Guide to theory for EDM in the tutorials section here soon though.

Basically he's using A minor (All the white keys A to A) and adding in a C# rhythmically.

That would be awesome! Because when I try to make melodies, even with the thing that highlights the notes you can use, they sound weird. And Google doesn't help.
